HOW I WORK
As a documentary photographer, my style is not to have a “set” or to “pose” people. My goal is to document this important life event, capturing the moments unique to your birth experience and your family.
My Presence
My presence is generally that of a quiet observer in the background. I do not use flash photography, nor do I set up any equipment. I know that the single most important thing going on is the birth itself. I will not interfere in or interrupt your process of birth—from contractions to communication with your care providers. My aim is to let your birth experience evolve as you wish.
Types of Shots
The types of shots I focus on are intended to capture the human moments of this experience: to document the event. I often take images that show the intimacy of a couple, the effort of the birthing mother, the support of her partner and family, and, of course, the first moments of meeting the newborn. If you have requests about specific parts of the birthing process, please let me know your preferences.
Final Images
When selecting and editing final images, I use discretion to ensure that the photos you receive are heartfelt and tasteful. I generally produce all images in black-and-white because it’s best suited for the birthing experience.
